ABOUT SAVHERA’S ESSENTIAL OILS

Why do your essential oils cost less than the popular MLM brands like DoTerra & Young Living?

The main two reasons Savhera’s essential oils are more cost effective than some competitors are:  1) We want to make premium, organic essential oils accessible regardless of socioeconomic status.  Cost is a common barrier to entry that we aim to remove while still paying all of our employees more than a living wage.  2) We are not a multi level marketing company that needs to pay commissions all the way down the chain.  That means the customer benefits with a lower price.

Are Savhera’s essential oils therapeutic grade?

This is an interesting question.  The truth is that the term “therapeutic grade” really has no real meaning.  Robert Tisserand, a renowned leader of aromatherapy, states:  “Terms such as ‘therapeutic grade’ ‘certified pure therapeutic grade’ or ‘clinical grade’ are not assigned, regulated, or endorsed by any governing body but rather marketing terms (often trademarked) leveraged by some essential oil suppliers; they don’t assure safety (or, variously, lack of potential for adverse reaction) in the use of an essential oil or blend, nor can they account for how the context of the user—or the oil—may compromise safe use.”

What is more important is the promise that our essential oils do not contain any synthetics, adulterants, contaminants, or diluents.  We are confident in this because we get every batch third-party tested by an independent lab and we make those test results available on our website.  Here is a blog article explaining that process. So although we don’t use the term “therapeutic grade”, we pride ourselves on offering the highest quality USDA certified organic essential oils on the market.

Are Savhera’s essential oils organic?

Yes, all our essential oils are USDA certified organic. One way to encourage sustainability within the essential oil industry is to reject the use of harmful chemicals and pesticides on the soil where the crops are grown.  Chemicals and pesticides not only harm the earth, but also infuse the crops, the oils, and ultimately the air and/or body.  We don’t want this anywhere for anyone.

Savhera’s essential oils cost less than MLM brands (DoTerra & Young Living) but much more than other essential oils that I see at Walmart, Walgreens, or Amazon.  Why is there so much variability in price and why are Savhera’s more expensive?

It’s important to note that the essential oil industry is unregulated, so many companies use words and make claims that go unchecked.  “Aromatherapy oils” are NOT essential oils, and that is why they are so cheap.  They will make your house smell good, but they are completely synthetic fragrance oils. Nothing about them is natural.

“Natural essential oils” may contain some percentage of pure essential oils but they are diluted with synthetic fillers.  Because of this, they are cheaper than 100% pure essential oils.  They can be diffused, but they should never be used topically.  Also note that the synthetic ingredients will make your diffuser gross and sticky overtime.

Here’s the real problem:  even companies that tout 100% pure essential oils are not always 100% pure.  So how do you know who to trust?  Here are a few rules of thumb:  1) do they publicize their test results on their website? 2) are the tests conducted by a third-party independent lab? 3) what is the price?  If a “100% pure essential oil” is cheaper than seems right, then it probably means that it contains synthetic fillers.

Savhera sells only the real deal.  We get all of our essential oils third-party tested by an independent lab.  We make these test results publicly available on our website for each batch of essential oil.  And we price our products fairly in comparison to other companies with our quality oils, though significantly less than DoTerra & Young Living because we don’t need to pay commissions to the “down line”!

Where are Savhera essential oils sourced?

Savhera’s essential oils are sourced from all over the world depending on the crop. You can find the sourcing location in every oils product page and on its label.

Does Savhera test its essential oils on animals?

Absolutely not!

Are your products Vegan?

Yes, all Savhera products are vegan.

Do I need to dilute Savhera essential oils with a carrier oil when using topically?

Every essential oil is different in terms of the recommended dilution, therefore we recommend that you refer to the product page for each individual oil to determine the recommended dilution rate.  That said, the International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists states:

“Aromatherapy treatments which involve applying undiluted essential oils to the skin do not meet the criteria for safe practice set out by IFPA. In addition to the skin reaction risks outlined above, undiluted essential oils may pose additional risks to people with compromised liver or kidney function, with heart disease, on blood thinning medication and with allergies to aspirin or other disorders. IFPA does not recommend the undiluted use of essential oils on the skin as they are powerful, concentrated substances. Diluting the essential oils in a carrier reduces the risk of irritation and sensitisation (allergic) reactions.”

Savhera recommends always diluting with a carrier oil when applying essential oils to your skin.

Are Savhera’s essentials oils safe to use on children?

Please refer to each individual oil’s product page to determine whether or not the oil is safe to be used on children.  Some are safe and others are not.  ALWAYS dilute any essential oil when using topically on children.  Consult your physician before using Savhera’s essential oils on children.

Can Savhera essential oils be used internally?

The FDA has a list of essential oils that it deems “Generally Recognized as Safe” (GRAS) for its intended use, and some companies use this list as a justification for their claims that essential oils are safe for ingestion.  However, the International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists states:

“IFPA does not endorse taking essential oils via ingestion or any other internal route. Taking essential oils internally is not included on the IFPA diploma teaching syllabus, which all IFPA-accredited schools are required to follow.

IFPA considers there to be potential safety risks in ingesting essential oils particularly regarding mouth, stomach and general gastric irritation. Ingestion also increases the risk of medication interactions and overdose, as far higher levels of the essential oil are absorbed by the body than by application via non-internal routes.

There are no universally agreed industry standards regarding the quality or grade of essential oils which deem them safe to be ingested. Ingestion includes drinking essential oil drops added to water or other fluids.”

Although Savhera’s essential oils are 100% pure and third-party tested to ensure the purity, Savhera does not recommend ingesting even those essential oils on the GRAS list.

ABOUT ESSENTIAL OILS GENERALLY

Are essential oils safe for dogs or cats?

Dogs have 300 million olfactory receptors in their noses as opposed to about 6 million in humans making their sense of smell about 50 times greater!  Keep this in mind when diffusing essential oils in a home with dogs as they smell the scent much more than you do.

Cats have sensitive livers and therefore it is more difficult for them to tolerate essential oils.  When diffusing with cats in the home, the room should be well-ventilated.

Applying essential oils topically to pets is generally not recommended, especially in the absence of advice from a veterinarian.

Is there a specific storage protocol for essential oils?

Savhera essential oils should be stored in dark bottles, at room temperature (or cooler), in dark, dry places.

Do essential oils expire?

While pure essential oils don’t really have an expiration date, over time they oxidize and gradually lose their quality. The lifespan of essential oils varies based on a number of factors, especially storage conditions. A rule of thumb is that citrus, lemongrass, frankincense, and tea tree have 1-2 year lifespans, while most others are in the 2-3 year range.

Do essential oils help improve aspects of my physical and mental health?

A vast body of research suggests that various essential oils have antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, mood-elevating, and calming properties.  See each individual oil’s product page to examine the benefits of that particular oil, but suffice it to say that, yes, the evidence suggests essential oils boost your physical and mental health and serve as a wonderful complement to traditional medicine.

Can essential oils burn your skin?

Yes, essential oils can burn your skin, and that is why making sure you are using them correctly is so important.  Some essential oils should never be applied topically (even if diluted).  Other essential oils that are safe for topical use must be diluted in order to use them correctly and avoid burning the skin.

ABOUT SAVHERA’S SOCIAL IMPACT

What does it mean that Savhera is a public benefit corporation?

Public benefit corporations:  “1) have an expanded purpose beyond maximizing share value to explicitly include general and specific public benefit; 2) are required to consider/balance the impact of their decisions not only on shareholders but also on their stakeholders; and 3) are required to make available to the public, except in Delaware, an annual benefit report that assesses their overall social and environmental performance against a third party standard.”

As a corporation that 1) employs survivors of sex trafficking with professional jobs that pay more than the living wage, 2) values environmental sustainability and supply chain transparency, and 3) values our customer’s right to receive high quality products at fair prices, being a public benefit corporation (PBC) allows us to take into consideration the impact of our business decisions on all stakeholders, including our employees, our customers, our shareholders, and the environment.  We serve a quadruple bottom-line:  people, planet, purpose, and profit.

How do you find and hire your employees?

We work directly with NGO/non-profit partners in India and the U.S. in order to identify the survivors of sex trafficking that we employ.

Are your employees paid living wages?

All of our employees in the United States and India are paid more than the living wage!  A living wage is defined as the wage needed to provide the minimum income necessary to pay for basic needs based on the cost of living in a specific community.  When determining the wages of our workers, we first research the living wage in the city in which they are living, and then aim to increase it by at least 50%.

Do the survivors you employ get treated well in India?

At Savhera, we implement a human development program called our PIES Model. Our employees spend 1.5 hours every work day on the PIES model advancing their own growth and development as human beings.  They receive healthcare, paid time off, holidays off, maternity leave, and professional development training.  They work five days/week for 8 hours/day.  We are a company that believes in treating others the way we want to be treated!
